Club Championship Update after 12 Races

Twelve races have now been completed in this years revised club championships, with another 5 races remaining.

9 points currently separate the top three of Division 1.

There is a gap of 98 points between first and second in the second division, with the third placed individual being another 107 now being 8 points points further adrift.  The points difference between first, second and third place is down to the number of races the second (6 races) and third (5 races) have completed.  I expect this to change as the season progresses and hope it will develop into a tight tussle for first place.

The top position in division three are again being tightly contested, with only 5 points between first and second position.  Again I expect this to become more intense as the season progresses.

Only two individuals have a chance of collecting the trophy for division four.  This is due to the fact that runners will need to complete a minimum of seven races to be eligible to receive a trophy for winning their division.  However the winner of the division is by no means clear cut, as the current leader can easily be caught by any of the others in the division.

Club Championship Update after 10 Races

Ten races have now been completed in this years revised club championships, with another 5 races remaining.

Currently we have two members on the same points at the top of Division 1.  However due to one member having competed in more championship races, that are in first position, due to their overall point total being greater than the other member.  This should ensure that we don’t have a tie for first place in the championships.

There is a gap of 97 points between first and second in the second division, with the third placed individual being another 107 points further adrift.  The points difference between first, second and third place is down to the number of races the second (6 races) and third (5 races) have completed.  I expect this to change as the season progresses and hope it will develop into a tight tussle for first place.

The top two positions in division three are again being tightly contested, with only 9 points between first and second position.  Again I expect this to become more intense as the season progresses.

Only four individuals have a chance of collecting the trophy for division four.  This is due to the fact that runners will need to complete a minimum of seven races to be eligible to receive a trophy for winning their division.  However the winner of the division is by no means clear cut, as the current leader can easily be caught by any of the others in the division.

Remember that your best performance from any Penrhyn parkrun during December will count towards the club championship.  Therefore you have 4 chances remaining to obtain that personal best performance which might make all the difference to your position in the club championship division you are in.

The remaining club championship races are:

Twin Piers – Llandudno, 1pm, Saturday 13th January 2018

Nick Beer – Llandudno, 12 noon, Sunday 11th February 2018

Borders League – Caernarfon, 11:00am, Sunday 18th February 2018

Anglesey Half – Menai Bridge, 9:00, Sunday 4th March 2018

If you notice any errors or omissions in the division tables can you let Sion know and he will address the issue.

An error has been highlighted within Division 1 of the club champs.

This has resulted in Chris Thomas replacing Peter Jones as the leader in Division by 1 point.

This goes to show that it is important for individuals to review the division tables as errors and omissions can be made (after all I am human).

Club Championship Update

Here is the belated update on the club championships.
There have now been 8 races in the club championship series, with the Caernafron 10k race being the latest in the series.
The top places in the first three divisions are all being keenly contested, with only a few points difference between the top places.
This will remain the position until the final race of the championships, as from now on only the top 8 results will be counted in the results, so every result will be crucial for members to maintain or improve their position in the championships.
For individuals who wish to improve their position the next race in the club championships is the Abergele 5 Mile race on the 5th November at 11:00am.

Club Championship Divisions

Below is the link to the divisional tables for this years club championships.

Where it has not been possible to determine a runners RunBritain ranking they have been placed in Division 4 until their ranking can be determined, after which they will be placed in the appropriate division.

There are 36 ranking places between the lowest and highest ranking divisions within the club, and by spliting the championship into 4 division it results in the divisions being made up as follows:

Division 1

  • -1.8 (lowest) to 6.9 – 8.7 ranking places between lowest to highest

Division 2

  • 7 to 15.9 – 8.9 ranking places between lowest to highest

Division 3

  • 16 to 24.9 – 8.9 ranking places between lowest to highest

Division 4

  • 25 to 33.9 (highest) – 8.9 ranking places between lowest to highest.

NOTE: Division 4 will range from 25 to 36 ranking places which is the maximum ranking on RunBritain.  This is to ensure that any new members who have been allocated a ranking higher than the current highest ranking within the club, will be included in the club championships (RunBritain rankings end at 36).

The RunBritain rankings, which will be used during the club championships were obtained in mid April, therefore might not reflect a runners current ranking.

The divisions can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

If you think your ranking is incorrect by a significant amount can you let the club championship coordinator know.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RULES – 2017/2018

Individuals competing in the club championship will be placed in one of four divisions based on their RunBritain rankings as of April 2017.

Scoring is based on a runner’s position within the finishing order for the division the runner has been allocated too.  100 points will be allocated to 1st, 99 to 2nd, 98 to 3rd, and so on.

For a runner to win their division, their objective is to amass the highest cumulative points total from any seven out of the fifteen races in the 2017-18 club championships.

Runners will need to complete a minimum of seven races to be eligible to receive a trophy for winning their division.

There will be no segregation of competitors within the divisions.  Individuals will be competing against runners with similar abilities irrespective of age or gender.

Runners will not be promoted/demoted to a higher/lower division should their RunBritain ranking change during the 2017/18 club championships.

Runners who do not currently have a RunBritain ranking will, once they have completed a club championship race, be placed in a division based on their ability as decided by the club championship co-ordinator.

Once a RunBritain ranking is allocated to that runner, then their position within the club championship divisions will be reviewed by the club championship co-ordinator.  When it is determined that an individual should be placed in a different division than initial allocated, then this will be agreed by the club committee and changed as necessary.

If at the end of the championship two runners within a division are on equal points, then the total points accumulated from club championship races they have participated in will be used to determine the winner.

Individuals will be included in the club championships once they have joined or renewed their membership of the club. Any result from races they have participated in prior to joining or renewing their membership will not count towards the club championships.

If when entering a club championship race, the individual has not stipulated “Cybi” as their club, then the club championship co-ordinator will not be held responsible if their result is omitted from the club championship results for that race.

Where races are chip timed, the competitors finishing positions will be based on the “Chip Time” and not the “Gun Time”.

The club championship rules will be reviewed on a regular basis, and may be amended as required at any time.  Any amendment to the club championship rules will be agreed by the Club Committee prior to implementation.
