38 Marathon’s in 11 months!

Cybi’s Michaela Owen recently completed a phenomenal 38th full marathon in 11 months in her bid to raise money for Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Special Care Baby Unit.

Covering a huge 995.6 miles during her challenge, Michaela originally hoped to raise £500 for her efforts, but she’s currently on course to raise over £1,900!

There’s still time to sponsor her, and she has a Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/50-marathons-in-2016. Take a look and read her story and pledge to this good cause.

Happy New Year, what’s on in January

What’s on in January:

The Cybi Monday Night Training kicks off the New Year on the 9th January at 6:30 in Llangefni and the usual Wednesday night social/steady paced runs (depending on how you feel) start in Menai Bridge on the 4th, with Llangefni the following week and Holyhead after that.

Despite the cold weather, January is a busy month for racing. On 14th is the X-country league race in Shrewsbury, with the popular Helsby Four Villages Half Marathon the next day on the 15th, this being a chance for Spring Marathoners to gauge their post Christmas fitness. On the 21st is the tough but stunningly scenic Winter Trail Half in Coed Y Brenin, Dolgellau and on the same day, the less gruelling, but fast paced Twin Piers 10k in Colwyn Bay where, if the weather is on side, there’s a chance of a PB (if you haven’t eaten too much turkey and chocolates over the holidays!) Finishing off the month of racing on the 22nd is the Borders League race staged by Deeside AAC.

For both the Borders and X-country races, please keep an eye on Facebook for any Club travel arrangements, and for an up to date list of all events, check out the Events page on the Cybi Striders web site http://cybistriders.co.uk/cal

Gethin Jones and Russell Williams ran for North Wales at different events over the weekend. Russell ran for North Wales at the Wales Inter Region Cross Country Championships at Brecon and finished in 99th place. Ryan Roberts and Irfon Rowlands was also selected for Brecon but was unable to complete.

Border League – Birkenhead

Both men and women’s team ran well at Birkenhead on the 4.12.16 which sees the men in 3rd place in Division 2 and the women in 4th place in their respective leagues.

Ryan Roberts followed up his recent fine showing at the North Wales Cross Country League to finish an equally impressive 3rd at Birkenhead and should get much confidence from mixing with the leaders in such high quality fields. Ryan was within touching distance of the winners so hopefully his 1st Border League victory is not far away.

The Birkenhead course  sees runners running 4 laps of the park totaling 5.5 miles.

Weekend round up 3rd and 4th December

Russell Williams ran a seasons best time of  39.16 at the Wilmslow 10k on the 4.12.16 in finishing in 92nd place. In what is a new event it offered a pleasant course on closed roads but was undulating in the 2nd half. If thinking of doing this next year beware that the start and finish areas are nearly 1.5 miles apart !

There was a big Cybi turnout at the weekend’s park run. Gethin Jones recovery from injury is progressing and he finished in 3rd place. Good also to see Ieuan Davies running again. Ieuan has also suffered injury problems over the summer.
